Welcome to OLA

Lent is upon us! A time to step back and reflect on our spiritual life after the busy seasons of Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany. It is a time of quiet joy and renewal that we may arise, to welcome Easter.
So how do we get there? It is through prayer, good works, and fasting. Fasting at least once a week but do not confuse that with abstinence (no meat on Friday). You can combine the two or do it separately.
But with that, one is called to pray and do good works! Prayer in the form of reflection- true quiet time. Going to Mass would only be part of uniting oneself in a communal way to get to the true quiet – an excellent way of quiet prayer would be Adoration on Wednesdays – half an hour to one hour.
How will you observe Lent this year?

Reverend Jim Duffy, S.M.
