SVdP Neighbor in Need Story

Recently our volunteers were called to aid two separate families whose husband/father had beendeported leaving behind their families with US born children. One, was an unemployed mother with2 children living at home, who requested rental assistance for her apartment that was unaffordable since the breadwinner was deported. The other mother with three

children born in the US was seeking a week’s stay at a motel. This mother works night shift and had to leave her children in this transient motel when she went to work.

Both situations were difficult and we were seeking a longer term living situation for both families.  It was an insight from the Holy Spirit that possibly these two families could move into the two-bedroom apartment and help support each other financially, in child care and emotionally. The families liked the idea and we were able to bring them food from our church Pantry, acquired queen mattress from another Vincentian along with several bed roll ups with pillows, started enrollment for returning the children to the local middle school, and set them up at the Council food pantry and thrift store, along with Mercy Care for their health needs. An ongoing search continues for the one mother to find employment.

We as a community are blessed with the contributions of our OLA members who seek to give a helping hand-up through donations and prayers. If you are interested in joining our ministry contact Steve Conway steveconway63@gmail.com .
