Introducing the St. Carlo Acutis Ministry for Youth

Over the summer the parish office received an email from Rania Mathews, daughter of Darlene and Mat, and current junior at Marist. After 2 years interning at the Chamblee St. Vincent de Paul she stated that she was moved by the "impactful experience that has made me a better person." In her desire to serve - and to bring other young people into that same heart of service - she proposed creating a youth service ministry at OLA.

The Mission is rooted in our faith and will be lived out in prayer, service, and fellowship.

The St. Carlo Acutis Youth Ministry, a ministry of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church (OLA), exists to unite the young people of our parish community, from the preschool level through high school, in a shared life of service, rooted in the example of Saint Carlo Acutis and the charism of St. Vincent de Paul.

We do not serve simply to fulfill a requirement. We serve because Christ is present in the poor, the hungry, and the forgotten, and because encountering Him there transforms us. Just as Carlo Acutis used his gifts to draw others closer to the Eucharist, and St. Vincent de Paul taught that 'the poor are our masters,' our youth are invited to discover that the deepest joy in life comes not from what we receive, but from what we give.

Our goal is to help every young person who joins this ministry walk away with a heart that understands what it means to love God by loving neighbor, and that carries this passion for service into adulthood.

We look forward to sharing more with you in the future, and we invite you and your child/ren to join in our first service opportunity over the October 3/4 weekend - a Food Drive for the SVdP Chamblee Pantry.
