About the event
Sacristans take care of the sacristy and assist the clergy in preparation of vessels and other material needed for Mass before the Mass and in clean-up afterwards. The greatest need is for sacristans at the weekend Masses. While the ministry of sacristan is not as visible as that of Lector or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, it is an important “behind the scenes ministry.”
At OLA, the duties of sacristans include preparing the ciboria for communion, a cruet for the wine offering, the priest’s chalice, cups for the precious blood (when we resume communion under both species), purificators, and water, bowl, and towel for the washing of hands and cleaning the purified vessels after mass.
We invite any interested parishioners to become sacristans. There will be a training session Wednesday evening, October 19, at 7:00pm in the church.
Contact Deacon Ed Patterson at epatterson@olachurch.org to sign up for the training or If there are any questions.
