Active Parishioner Status
November 16, 2020
Dear OLA Families,
It is that time of year again - when many of you are gearing up to apply for your child/children to attend the OLA Preschool and/or OLA School. An important part of the application process is the Archdiocesan Parish Verification Form that establishes if parents are 'active parishioners.'
The Archdiocese of Atlanta defines 'active parishioners' as those registered and worshipping members who contribute of their time, talent, and financial resources to support the Parish by the following:
supports their Parish financially,
actively participates in Mass each week, and
shares their talents within the parish community (Adult Ministry, not children/youth).
I am aware that the COVID-19 pandemic has made Mass attendance difficult and removed many of the parish volunteer opportunities. I also know that some of our families may be experiencing financial hardships. With this in mind, I have decided to give every family the status of ACTIVE for the 2021-2022 school year. I have asked Mrs. Kehoe and Mrs. Cordell to not require that the verification form be filled out for new applicants or returning families and they have agreed.
For other schools, you must EMAIL your verification to our Communications Director, Anne Stephens at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will receive ACTIVE status for the 2021-2022 school year, but the form will still be required by schools outside of OLA.
It is my hope that this decision will give our families some relief during this trying time. Although I am granting everyone active status, it does not mean that the parish can afford for you to become lax on participating in the life of our community!
We are still in need of your financial support to keep the parish running,
We are still in need of your presence at Mass. Although the Archbishop has granted the dispensation from attending Mass until further notice, it is important for your faith life (and our community) that you to continue to join us for Mass - In Person or via our Livestream. You can learn more about the opportunities to attend Mass by clicking here. To learn about the protocols in place for attending Mass in person, click here.
We are still in need of volunteers for the ministries that are currently active - we especially need volunteers each weekend at the In Person Masses. This need will greatly increase in December with our Christmas Masses and in the new year as we hope to add additional weekend Masses. We cannot gather for the liturgy without your help. Please click here to learn more about volunteering at our liturgies.
You are in my prayers.
Yours in Mary, Our Mother,
