About the Event
Streamed on Facebook Live from the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church - Atlanta Facebook page (www.facebook.com/olachurch.atlanta), the Parish Care for Creation team will guide an Ecological Examen to honor the Patron Saint of Ecology. This journey will bring us together as we pray, reflect and deepen our call to care
for creation as we respond to Pope Francis Laudato Si encyclical to “cooperate as instruments of God in the care for creation.”
St. Francis of Assisi saw God reflected in nature and loved all creation, reflected in the Canticle of the Sun also known as Canticle of the Creatures, a song where he thanks God for the creation of “Brother Fire”, “Sister Water”, “Sister Moon” and Brother Wind.
In 1979 Pope John Paul II declared St. Francis the Patron Saint of Ecology. Further challenging contemporary Catholics to use St. Francis love to take “care so that everything stays healthy and integrated, so as to offer a welcoming and friendly
environment even to those who succeed us.”
The Care for Creation team is developing a multi-faceted program of education, service and worship open to all OLA parishioners, visitors and community members. Our mission to implement the teachings of Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si' as interpreted in the Laudato Si Action lan authored by UGA for the Atlanta Archdiocese. If you are interested in joining the team or would like more information on the program contact Suzanne Degnats (email: sdegnats@gmail.com).
