In 1951, the concept was born of providing a Catholic education to children on a seven-acre site located on Hearst Drive in Oglethorpe Estates. Monsignor Joseph Moylan invited the Sisters of Mercy from the Savannah Mother house to come to Atlanta to minister to the educational and spiritual needs of the new Our Lady of the Assumption parish’s children. The school initially enjoyed an enrollment of 176 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

An impressive 65 years later, OLA Catholic School is home to 529 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The physical facility has evolved over the years, and the school transitioned to an all-lay faculty in 1988. However, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy remains at the heart of our school’s mission: to create a nurturing environment grounded in the Catholic faith, which provides for the spiritual and academic development of each child.

Each student, parent, and faculty/staff member who has been a part of our OLA community over the past 65 years has contributed to our rich and enduring legacy. We hope that you will help us celebrate who we have been, what we are today, and what the future holds for OLA Catholic School.

Please mark the third weekend of September 2016 in your calendar for the 65th Anniversary Celebration Weekend:

On Friday, September 16, join us for OLA Night at the Braves. In honor of our 65th Anniversary, all OLA alumni, families, grandparents, and parishioners are eligible for special group pricing to cheer the Atlanta Braves vs. the Washington Nationals. This will be one of the final games in the Braves’ last season at Turner Field. Highlights of the evening include the OLA choir singing the National Anthem and all OLA children taking the field for a parade during pre-game festivities. Many thanks to parent Debbie Masterson, who has been instrumental in securing and planning this amazing evening.

On Saturday, September 17, plan to attend the 5 pm 65th Anniversary Mass. Following Mass, stay for a reception, campus tours, and viewing of the future campus master plan.  Please RSVP the name of each guest attending the reception and your graduation year to jharry@olaschool.org.

We look forward to celebrating our history, our today, and our future with you!
