Adult Religious Education

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA is a contemporary version of the early Church's method of initiating non-Catholic adults into membership in the Church. People who wish to join the Catholic Church are asked to go through a process of faith-sharing. These candidates, called catechumens, are gradually introduced into the community, its way of life, its gospel value system, its fellowship, and its prayer and worship. After a suitable period of formation, the catechumen may choose to become a full member of the Christian community and receive the sacraments of initiation. The RCIA sessions meet weekly on Sunday mornings, 10:00-11:30 AM in the Upper Room,

Small Christian Communities (SCC)

The parish-wide Small Christian Communities (SCC) are faith-sharing groups of 6 to 12 people per group. Several parish groups (25-30 groups) meet at various times of the day and days of the week. Some groups have been meeting for 15 or 20 years! Small Christian Communities are powerful vehicles for adult faith formation, providing opportunities for learning, prayer, mutual support, and the shared experience of Christian living and service. Many of these groups meet in parishioner’s homes and use discussion materials rooted in Scripture and Church tradition. We invite you to participate in a small group or to get ideas for materials for your existing group.

Docent Ministry

A docent is a tour guide for our local church building. We offer informed tours of the church, highlighting the aspects of the building crucial to liturgical worship. Parishioners are invited to learn more about the signs and symbols of our new church. Additional aspects of the growing docent ministry include the ongoing research and writing of materials to further explain the relationship between liturgy and catechesis.
