A memorable weekend for OLA’s 8th grade Girls’ Basketball team in Charlotte, NC for the 57th Annual Shamrock basketball tournament, a single elimination tournament made up of 32 teams from 5 states. The team performed wonderfully, winning the first three games in relatively easy fashion.

The highlight, however, was a 13 point win in the semi-final game where the girls found themselves down 12-0 at the start and 20-4 after the first quarter. Most of the opponent’s scoring was done by their 14 year old 6’2” center, who had 14 points in the first half. Our girls were up to the task in the second half winning the game 47-34, with the defense limiting their star player to 4 points.

The team fought valiantly in the championship game against a 7-time Shamrock Tournament winning school from Greensboro, NC.

The OLA girls finished an impressive second place in this very competitive tournament. The Shamrock Tournament capped off a great season for the girls to remember. Overall they racked up 12 wins and 2 loss including 2 championship runs.

Coaches Jim Trupiano and Ray Peebles could not be prouder of the effort everyone made this season. They are an excellent group of young women who were outstanding representatives for OLA.
